Within the beautiful setting of our Sacred Monastery of Bigorski, where the centuries-old traditions of woodcarving, art, and craftsmanship form an inseparable part of its rich spiritual and cultural heritage, an engaging and informative professional presentation was recently held, dedicated to modern technologies and products for the protection, treatment, and care of wood.

With the blessing of our beloved Elder and Abbot, His Grace Bishop Parthenius of Antania, the product range of the renowned German company OSMO Holz und Color GmbH & Co. KG was presented in the monastery’s ceremonial Synodikon Hall by its regional representative, Osmo Adriatic. The presentation brought together representatives of several companies and professionals from the wood-processing industry, furniture manufacturing, and the application of paints, oils, and protective wood coatings.

The technical session was led by the company’s technical representative, Mr. Tomaž, who introduced the participants to the characteristics and advantages of OSMO products, with particular emphasis on modern solutions for the long-term protection of wooden surfaces, the preservation of their natural beauty, and the extension of their service life.

With a tradition spanning more than 140 years, OSMO is internationally recognised for its innovative systems for wood treatment and protection, particularly its coatings based on natural vegetable oils and waxes. These products allow wood to retain its natural appearance and texture while providing protection against moisture, dirt, and everyday wear. Particular attention is also devoted to the sustainable use of natural materials and their proper maintenance.

The entire organisation of this valuable professional gathering was undertaken by JugoPod, a company based in Strumica, which helped bring together representatives of the business sector, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences, acquire new knowledge, and strengthen professional cooperation.

For our monastic community, which throughout its centuries-long history has nurtured and preserved the noble heritage of Macedonian master craftsmen, builders, and woodcarvers, gatherings of this kind also carry a special symbolic significance. Wood, as a natural material, has always occupied an important place in Orthodox ecclesiastical architecture and art, while the iconostasis of Bigorski, one of the most magnificent achievements of the Macedonian woodcarving tradition, remains an enduring testimony to its beauty and nobility.

With heartfelt gratitude to the organisers and all the participants, we rejoice that our Sacred Monastery has once again served as a place of fruitful encounter and exchange of knowledge and experience, in a spirit of respect for tradition, creativity, and human craftsmanship.
