On the occasion of the grand jubilee, the 1000th anniversary of the foundation of the Sacred Bigorski Monastery, the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MASA), in collaboration with our revered Debar-Kichevo Diocese and the Bigorski Monastery, organized an exhibition of ancient icons and church objects from the rich monastery treasury.
The exhibition was opened by the president of MASA, Academician Ljupcho Kocarev, in the presence of government representatives, the diplomatic corps, and the metropolitans of the MPC-OA, including: Metropolitan of Debar-Kichevo Mr. Timotej, Metropolitan of Bregalnica Mr. Ilarion, Metropolitan of Tetovo-Gostivar Mr. Josif, and our elder and abbot, Bishop Antaniski Mr. Partenij. Several priests of our holy Church were also present. Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia Mr. Stefan also delivered a fitting address.
From the artistic treasury of the Bigorski Monastery, icons and sacred objects dating from the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries were exhibited, along with the true rarity — three paper (graphic) icons and a double-sided graphic copperplate for printing these icons. As a special historical treasure, beautiful priestly vestments made in the Bigorski sewing workshop in the second half of the 18th century were displayed.
Considering the decades-long cooperation with this highest scientific institution in the country, our sacred Monastery sincerely thanks its President Mr. Ljupcho Kocarev and all its members who contributed to a worthy celebration and promotion of the jubilee of 1000 years since the foundation of the Bigorski Monastery, whose central event will be held on October 18th.
The exhibition will be open every working day until November 1st, from 11 am to 6 pm.
