Founding of the Church of St. Cyril of Jerusalem in Kakanda, Congo

On Monday, July 22, 2019, the faithful of the city of Kakanda welcomed Bishop Meletios of Katanga, with great enthusiasm.

The Metropolitan and his escort arrived at the land donated to the Metropolis by the Greek-African Michael Kouvas and determined with the technicians the exact location of the Temple. In the end the Metropolitan referred to the great importance of the event by saying that “where a temple is founded, devil’s power is expelled from there” and thanked the donors in Greece who contributed to turn the need of the faithful of the city into reality. As a representative of the donors, Archimandrite Vasilios Giannakas of the Metropolis of Nea Smyrni said inter alia: “The foundation stone symbolizes Christ and our faith in Him. In this faith, the Church was founded and built and no force was able to overpower it.”
